I have been thinking here recently back to when we first came to Thailand. It's been just over two years ago now. I remember how scared we were at the thought of living in a foreign country and I remember how hard things were at first. Thailand seemed like the furthest I could get away from home. We didn't know anyone. For the first two weeks, we lived in a hotel room. We couldn't speak Thai, a language which looked like chicken scratch to us at the time. We never dreamed we would be where we are now. I personally never thought I would EVER call Thailand my home. It's amazing what God can do. With God, we made it to Thailand safely. With God, we got settled in Thailand. With God, we learned to speak, read, and write the Thai language. Now we are filling in for other missionaries and getting ready to move and start our own work. It's because of God that all this happened. It's because of God that we came to Thailand and I got saved. Without Him, none of this would have even been possible. Thailand doesn't seem foreign anymore, and the Thai language doesn't seem like a bunch of lines and dots and curves and stuff. It actually looks like letters and characters and vowels and consonants. We know tons of people here now, some are foreigners like us and many are Thai people. We've lived here two years now and Thailand is home. It is amazing to look back and see how God has worked in your life!! Without HIM we could do nothing!
SO the title is kind of a well-known cliche that most of us have heard before. But have you ever thought about the meaning of this? In the world, we have to have money, of course, to have a place to live, get around, eat, and buy necessities, but is that all there is to life? Let me tell you that life is way more than that. I can name so many things you can't get with money. You can't get friends, family, love, joy, and true happiness. Sure you can convince someone to be your friend if you give them money (I don't know why you would anyway), but if you did that, you can know for a fact that that person would not be a real friend. They would stick with you half of the time until things got hard and then leave you. And on the more spiritual side of things, life can be so much more with a friend in Jesus! The BEST thing you can EVER have is Salvation. And you know what? Salvation is FREE. And in Jesus, you get so much more things that you didn't have before. You have a friend that will stick closer than a brother, and you are constantly loved by Jesus Christ no matter what you do. |
